Father Gerard Fitzgerald
Father Gerard Fitzgerald was a former parish priest who originally did his priesthood studies in Dublin, Ireland. Once ordained, he moved to Melbourne in 1955 to work/serve within the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne between 1955 to 2006.
The parishes where Father Fitzgerald served at includes, but are not limited to:
Moreland, Melbourne;
West Preston, Melbourne;
Castlemaine;
Coburg (1964);
Frankston (1965);
Holy Family Parish, Geelong where he was acting as chaplain at St Catherine’s Girls Orphanage;
St Martin de Porres Parish, Laverton (1973 -1987);
Holy Cross Parish, Caulfield South (1988 – 2006).
During his service with the Archdiocese, Father Fitzgerald was accused and investigated by Victoria police of sexually abusing children from migrant families at the Coburg Parish School. However, due to lack of evidence that could be obtained from the migrant families at the time, Father Fitzgerald was never charged. Furthermore, there were allegations of him molesting children residing St Catherine’s Orphanage in Geelong, Victoria.
