John Bodey

John Melverne Bodey was born in Derby, in 1941. He spent most of his childhood in Darwin and went to boarding school in Charters Towers, Queensland. He has mainly lived in Derby and Kununurra and has had varied jobs including truck driving and working in the horticulture industry in the Kimberleys and other parts of Western Australia. In 1997, Mr Bodey graduated from the Norther Territory University with an Associate Diploma of Applied Science in Tropical Horticulture.

Numerous allegations were made against Mr Bodey in relation to historical child sexual abuse when he was employed as the school gardener at Derby District High School in Derby, Western Australia. In 2018, Mr Bodey was extradited from Queensland to Western Australia for sexually assaulting numerous boys, aged between 8 and 17 between 1975 and 1989. In March 2020, John Bodey pleaded guilty to 57 historic child abuse offences stemming from his abuse of 13 boys in Derby, Western Australia between 1970 and 1986. Please see the link below:

Moody Law has recently represented three clients against the State of Western Australia, who made allegations of sexual abuse against John Bodey when they were students of Derby District High School and some were members of the local motocross club. All three matters were successfully settled out of court.
